    Something significant just happened in eCommerce, and it's not just Google's announcement. At Google I/O 2026, the company unveiled Universal Cart — an AI-powered shopping cart that persists across Search, Gemini, YouTube, and Gmail, proactively hunting for deals and monitoring price drops as customers go about their day. But Google isn't alone. OpenAI has been developing its own instant checkout capabilities, and Shopify has long had its Shop app doing something remarkably similar.
